2. Read, analyze, discuss, and take notes on how Dr. Eugene Clark uses the scientific method when studying sharks. Textbook pages S1-S5
3. Create a flowchart showing steps scientists follow when solving a problem. Textbook page S6
Class work: Questions and answers.
9/9. Aim: To discover and describe skills scientist need when they follow the scientific method.

2. Identify and compare three states of matter.

9/11. Aim: Students will describe matter as anything that has properties that can be observed and described.

2. Make a table describing and classifying matter by their properties. Textbook pages E6-E7 3. Class work: workbook pages 226 and 231
Homework: Reread pages s1-s7 and answer the following questions on loose-leaf.
1. What was Dr. Clark’s question and hypothesis?
2. Define conclusion
3. What should a good hypothesis and experiment do?
4. What should a scientist do if the results of an experiment do not support their hypothesis?
9/12. Aim: How to define matter?
Vocabulary: mass/ kilogram/ solid/ liquid/ gas
Lesson: 1. Define matter as anything that has mass, regardless of its state. Tb. pages E8-E9
2. Describe the four characteristics of matter. Matter has mass. Matter takes up space. Matter has properties. Matter can exist as solid, liquid, or gas. Tb. page E10.
