Weekly vocabulary update!!!!!!!!!!

Beginning In January after the Christmas Break, vocabulary words will be given for Homework on Monday and due the following day on Tuesday for review. The assignment will require all students to copy words and their definitions from the teachers' blog and into their vocabulary notebook. If internet access is limited or none then The school will provide internet access after dismissal from 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. so, that everyone has a fair opportunity to obtain their vocabulary words.

*The annual science fair will be held on March 17th, here at O.L.Q.M. Participating will be students from 4th through 8th grades representing the neighboring schools in our district.
*Students of the 4th grade need to have projects completed and ready to present in class by March, week of the 7th. Student projects will be evaluated and selected to represent our grade at the annual Science Fair.

* What is a science fair project?
-It is a presentation of an experiment, a demonstration, a research effort, a collection of scientific apparatus. It represents the efforts of a student's investigation into some area of interest and provides an opportunity for the student to demonstrate the results of those investigations via the scientific method. Projects allow students to experiment, make decisions, form and re-form hypotheses, test and examine ideas, seek solutions, and most important, learn more about themselves and their world.

*TYPES of SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS:
1. demonstrations: a) demonstrating a scientific principle
b) demonstrating a natural phenomenon
c) demonstrating how a practical product works

2. investigations: a) comparative survey. ex. comparing heartbeats of girls and boys.
b) controlled experiment: contains an experimental group/control group/ and a variable. example: testing the effects of sea water and fresh water on identical plants.
c) simple experiment: shows a change in something, where the change can be measured and predicted based on measurements.

3. collections: this type of project involves preparing a display for a collection in the field of science. ex. "rock collection" or a collection of different types of "insulators or conductors."
