MATH
2ND
10:45-12:00
9/8. Aim: Students will review addition concepts, adding numbers with sums up to 20. Reread word problems to distinguish between relevant information and extra information.
Vocabulary: part/ whole/ addend/ sum/ skip-counting/ extra-information.
Lesson: 1. Vocabulary development: definitions written 2 times each and recited.
2. Assess prior knowledge of math skills, textbook pages 61-62 on loose-leaf.
3. Students will use counters or blocks to demonstrate one digit addition problems.
4. Problem Solving. Students will practice rereading strategy to see which information is needed and which is not to arrive at a solution.
C.W.: 1. Textbook pages. 3-6
H.W.: workbook page 1 on loose-leaf.
9/9. Aim: Students will practice skip counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s up to 100. They will solve and write related addition facts.
Vocabulary: related addition facts/ commutative property (order)/ addition sentence
Lesson: 1. Students will demonstrate the ability to skip count mentally and/or through the use of counters.
2. Related facts: 2+4=6 and 4+2=6. Commutative property explains how changing the order of addends does not change the sum.
3. Problem solving.
C.W.: Textbook pages 7-12.
Homework: workbook page 1 and 2
9/10. Aim: Students will continue to practice skip counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s up to 100. Teacher will demonstrate the make 10 strategy of addition to find sums.
Vocabulary: making 10 strategy
Lesson: 1. Vocabulary development
2. Students will use counters and ten-frames to represent addition sentences.
3. Problem solving.
Homework: textbook pages 7-8
9/11. AIM: opening school mass
9/12. Aim: Teacher will demonstrate the use of make 10 and doubles strategy to find sums.
Vocabulary: Doubles fact
Lesson: 1. the use of counters or dominos to represent addition sentences and identify any doubles fact by decomposing and composing addends.
2. Working in groups to make a poster that displays all doubles facts from 0+0 to 10+10.
C.W.: Textbook pages. 17-18
9/15. Aim: Students will extend the doubles strategy and use the doubles plus 1 and doubles minus 1 strategy to find sums.
Vocabulary: Doubles +1/ Doubles-1
Lesson: 1. Distribute counters 10 of each. Children will model numbers and show one more or one less.
2. Problem solving.
C.W.: Textbook pages. 19-20 and workbook page 7
